Subcontabilización de datos y estructura de fallecimientos por la Covid-19 en México

    Se analizan tres aspectos fundamentales de la Covid-19 en México: el exceso de mortalidad, en gran medida atribuido a dicho padecimiento, no reportado por las estadísticas oficiales; la estructura por edad y sexo de los contagios y fallecimientos durante las dos primeras olas vis-a-vis el inicio de la tercera, y las distribuciones etarias de la tasa de letalidad, también estratificadas en dos periodos. Se aplican estadísticas descriptivas y comparadas a las bases de datos originadas a partir de los registros la Secretaría de Salud, ordenadas por edad y sexo, y enriquecidas con revisiones a las actas de defunción del INEGI y el Grupo Interinstitucional para la Estimación del Exceso de Mortalidad por Todas las Causas durante la Emergencia por la Covid-19, sin que ello haya conducido a ajustes sustanciales de las series. Los resultados corroboran incompatibilidades entre los datos de contagios y fallecimientos, con mayor subcontabilización de la primera variable que de la segunda, lo que se refleja en el alto nivel de la tasa de letalidad.

    Three fundamental aspects of Covid-19 in Mexico are analyzed: the excess of mortality, largely attributed to this disease, which official statistics do not report; the structure by age and sex of infections and deaths during the first two waves vis-a-vis the beginning of the third; and the age distributions of the fatality rate, also stratified into two periods. Descriptive and comparative statistics are applied to the data-bases obtained through the records of the Ministry of Health, sorted by age and sex and enriched with revisions to the death certificates of INEGI and the Inter-Institutional Group for the Estimation of Excess Mortality from All Causes during the Covid-19 Emergency, having not caused substantial adjustments to the series. The results corrobo-rate incompatibilities between the data on infections and deaths, with greater under-accounting in the first variable than in the second, leading to the high level of the country's fatality rate.
