    This document presents the main results of the latest investment and capital stock estimates for the Spanish economy, developed jointly by the Ivie and the BBVA Foundation in 2021. The data has been updated to cover the period 1964-2019 with a broad breakdown by assets (tangible and intangible), sectors, regions and provinces. In addition, data on investment and capital stock have been updated until 2021 in an effort to analyze the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on capital accumulation in Spain. The richness of the database enables the characteristics of capitalization to be studied from multiple angles, making these estimates an essential tool for the study of the sources of growth in Spain.

    In this edition, the analysis focuses on the evolution of investment and capital stock since 1995, both at national and regional levels. It also offers information on transport infrastructures in physical units, as a complement to the information in monetary terms that is estimated annually in the capital stock database, and analyzes whether the results of both approaches to measuring the endowments used by the regions are consistent and compatible.

    Este documento presenta los principales resultados de las estimaciones de inversión y dotaciones de capital para la economía española, desarrolladas conjuntamente por la Fundación BBVA y el Ivie en 2021. La base de datos actualizada cubre el periodo 1964-2019 y está desagregada por comunidades autónomas y provincias, por activos materiales e inmateriales y por sectores de actividad. En esta ocasión, se ha hecho un esfuerzo para actualizar los datos de inversión y stock de capital hasta 2021, de forma que sea posible avanzar los efectos de la COVID-19 sobre la acumulación de capital en España. La riqueza de las estimaciones permite estudiar la capitalización desde múltiples puntos de vista y convierte al banco de datos en un instrumento imprescindible para el estudio de las fuentes del crecimiento en España. En esta edición el análisis se centra en la evolución de las trayectorias de inversión y el stock de capital desde 1995, tanto a nivel nacional como regional. Asimismo, también se ofrece información de las infraestructuras de transporte en términos físicos, que complementa la información en términos monetarios que ofrece con periodicidad anual la base de datos de stock de capital, y se analiza si ambas aproximaciones a la medición de las dotaciones de las que disfrutan los territorios ofrecen conclusiones compatibles entre sí.
