La infraestructura ferroviaria a través de los Pirineos adolece de los medios necesarios y precisará un largo período de maduración, junto a un acuerdo institucional, que priorice la financiación europea. Un nuevo corredor transpirenaico reduciría el tiempo y la distancia a la mitad entre las ciudades de Zaragoza y Toulouse. Dado que el corredor atlántico estará saturado para 2060, se precisa una alternativa ferroviaria por los Pirineos centrales, que sufren una carencia drástica, especialmente si comparamos la situación con los siete pasos ferroviarios y seis para vehículos de los que gozan los Alpes. La mejora en la conectividad entre la península ibérica y el resto de Europa es imprescindible para la convergencia social y económica de Portugal y España con los países centrales de la Unión europea.

The railway infrastructure across the Pyrenees lacks the necessary means and will require a long period of maturation, together with an institutional agreement, which prioritises European funding. A new Trans-Pyrenean corridor would cut the time and distance in half between the cities of Zaragoza and Toulouse.
Given that the Atlantic corridor will be saturated by 2060, a railway alternative is needed for the central Pyrenees, which suffer a drastic lack, especially if we compare the situation with the 7 railway crossings and 6 for vehicles enjoyed by the Alps. The improvement in connectivity between the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe is essential for the social and economic convergence of Portugal and Spain with the central countries of the European Union.
