    Augustine’s Sermon 101, according to the Maurist numbering, was completed in 1930 by André Wilmart, whence it is now referred to as Wilmart 20 or 101 auctus. Its tradition is poor, and no copy gives its entire text. The present edition is the first to use five manuscripts, particularly the Mainz homiliary (Mainz, Stadtbibliothek I 9). The sermon, which explains Luke 10, 2-6, was preached in a Carthaginian basilica, between 397 and 401, not long after Augustine was ordained as bishop. It criticizes the too literal explanations of the gospels.

    Le sermon 101 d’Augustin, selon la numérotation des Mauristes, a été complété en 1930 par André Wilmart, d’où son nom actuel de sermon Wilmart 20 ou 101 augmenté. Sa tradition est réduite, et aucune copie n’en transmet le texte intégral. La présente édition est la première à exploiter cinq manuscrits, en particulier le sermonnaire de Mayence (Mainz, Stadtbibliothek I 9). L’allocution, qui commente Luc 10, 2-6, fut prêchée dans une basilique de Carthage, peu après l’ordination épiscopale d’Augustin, entre 397 et 401. Elle critique les interprétations trop littérales des évangiles.
