    El texto presenta las caras que asume el liberalismo cuando busca hacer compatible, incompatible o absoluto los valores liberales de libertad e igualdad. En particular, presenta el contraste entre los argumentos de un autor que, al considerar la libertad como un valor absoluto y suficiente en sí mismo, señala la existencia de una relación necesaria entre la igualdad ante la ley, la libertad individual y la desigualdad social (Hayek); las tesis centrales de un liberal socialista que defiende la posibilidad de hacer compatible e interdependiente la libertad individual con la igualdad material (Bobbio), y los presupuestos de un liberal agonista que sostiene que los valores políticos de libertad e igualdad no sólo son incompatibles e inconmensurables, sino que, además, se encuentran sometidos a juicios comparativos, estimativos y evaluativos que pueden exigir "elecciones dolorosas" (Berlin).

    The author shows in this text the faces of liberalism when it tries to make compatibles, incompatibles or absolutes the liberal values of liberty and equality. In particular, put forward the contrast between the arguments of an author that, considering liberty as a absolute and sufficient value in itself, point out the existence of a necessary relation among equality before the law, individual liberty and social inequalities (Hayek); the core of the thesis of a liberal socialist who defends the possibility of render compatible and interdependent the individual liberty with the material equality (Bobbio), and the premise of an agonist liberal for whom liberty and equality as political values not only are incompatibles and incommensurables, but also are subdued to comparative, estimative and evaluative judgments that could require “painful  choices” (Berlin).
