After a brief outline of the principal episodes in the external histories of Romance creoles, the chapter surveys the principal aspects of phonology, morphology and syntax of Ibero-Romance-based creoles and French-based creoles. Topics dealt with include: vowels; consonants; morphosyntax of noun phrase (plural formation, determiners, subject pronouns, object pronouns, adjectives), verb phrase (tense, aspect, mood; copulas; (give/directional) serial verbs), and of sentence (word order, object marking, verb doubling in contrastive focus constructions, valency changing operations, interrogative and focus constructions).
