  • Can artistic intervention on obsolescent industrial heritage influence institutional policies regarding its management, and make society aware of itsfragility and value? We contemplate the hypothesis that art, with its ownmechanisms and logics, can influence social and political change in the protection, valorization and management of industrial heritage. "Exhibition ofmotifs" is a work consisting of 15 artistic interventions on Industrial Cultural Goods of the Basque Country. The work materializes with the projection of the articles of Law 7/90 of the Basque Cultural Heritage on the facades of the Industrial Cultural Heritage of Greater Bilbao, as a paradigmatic example of a generalized lack of protection, because despite having legalprotection, in many cases they find themselves in a situation of abandonment that leads them to a state of irreversible ruin. This situation causes adouble obsolescence in these elements, which affects their physical integrity and their condition as containers of industrial memory.The interventions show this problem, putting the magnifying glass on theresponsibility of this flagrant breach of the law, both in the owners and inthe administrations responsible for complying with and enforcing the lawin force. This work forms part of the practical development of my doctoralthesis that explores the links between contemporary art and industrialheritage; and whose objective is to influence a dynamic change in the management of cultural heritage in order to preserve both the buildings, as wellas the landscape and the memory of the industrialization they treasure,through the revelation of non-compliance with the law and its consequences for industrial heritage. The methodology includes the updating of theanalysis of these Cultural Assets and the creation of artistic interventions;the contributions are (1) updating of the files of the Industrial Cultural Assets; (2) analysis of the non-application of Law 7/90 in each specific case;and (3) the realization of 15 artistic interventions.
