Resumen de La Fábrica de Tabacos de Madrid desde Gonzalo Bilbao a Borondo: arte es símbolo y superficie

Ana Tinajero Cabrera

  • An advertisement, a name of a company or a logo capture the attention of thecitizen as design is often associated with an identity. A building had a name, the name of the firm that exploits it. When it stops working or the businesscease to operate, the space remained empty, awaiting a new use or an end -its demolition. In this standby time the change has already started.New names appear taking up the walls of the old factory, bestowing a newquality upon it and changing the current space. Abandoned industries and peripheral areas turn into dead places from the point of view of the spectator butthe reality is: these buildings are now meeting point of artist who put life backon them. At this moment the building creates a place for new drawings, typographies and ideas that is not restricted by a frame because its limit is wherethe architectural elevation ends.Extraordinary architectonical proportions, walls so high that seem to be infinite. The fabric becomes into the stage where the piece of art appears. As longas people use this space, it will not be forgotten and thereby fairs, biennials, conventions and meetings will emerge... Diffusion of the culture. Street artindustrial districts transform into cultural districts. Areas and spaces definedby graffitis and anonymus murals. What will be there in the end?
