    El actual Statu quo en Oriente Medio no ha evolucionado espontáneamente, sino que ha sido el resultado de un complejo proceso que lleva desarrollándose desde, por lo menos, mediados del siglo XX. La disputa por los recursos y la energía, el auge del terrorismo religioso y las antiguas disputas étnicas y tribales han sido y son capítulos fundamentales en la historia de la región. Irak es un modelo de estudio para identificar actores y dinámicas en la situación del Medio Oriente. Su actual fragilidad, fruto del desgaste prolongado tras décadas de guerra, crisis e intervencionismo exterior, revela con claridad las intenciones y métodos de los actores que tratan de influir en el equilibrio de la región. Por lo tanto, este estudio tiene por objeto el análisis de las diferentes fuerzas que tienen peso en el país, cuáles son sus objetivos, como se han relacionado y cuáles han sido las consecuencias de sus acciones. Una suerte de síntesis organizada que busca aproximar el área del conflicto a una Europa que sigue buscándose a sí misma. ¿Qué impacto tiene la Unión Europea y España en este Medio Oriente? ¿Cómo se plantea su arquitectura de defensa de cara al futuro?

    The current Statu Quo in the Middle East is not a situation arising from spontaneity, but a process that has been developing, at least, since the middle of the XX century. The dispute over resources and energy, the rise of jihadist terrorism and the ancient ethnic and tribal disputes have been and are fundamental chapters in the history of the region. Iraq is a perfect study model to identify main characters and behaviors in the Middle East situation. Its current fragility, as a result of prolonged wear and tear after decades of war, crisis and foreign interventionism, clearly reveals the intentions and methods of the key players trying to influence the balance of the region. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the different forces that have relevance in the country, what are their goals, how they have been related and what have been the consequences of their actions. A sort of structured synthesis that seeks to bring the area of conflict closer to a Europe that keeps looking for itself. What impact does the European Union and Spain have on this Middle East? How is its defense policies to be stablished in the future?
