Resumen de Traducción de textos médicos: acrónimos y siglas de cardiología

  En la traducción de textos médicos es muy frecuente encontrar acrónimos y siglas, y en este proceso estas abreviaturas constituyen además de un problema lingüístico, también uno cultural. El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar en textos médicos de cardiología los problemas asociados a la traducción del inglés al español de los acrónimos y siglas utilizados. Como resultado se dieron soluciones a tales problemas. Algunas de estas soluciones son incluir el significado de la abreviatura en inglés y en español para tener una comprensión total, o encontrar el núcleo semántico de una frase y darle el género y el número apropiados. Este es un estudio sincrónico, descriptivo, interpretativo y cualitativo dentro del marco de los estudios descriptivos de la traducción, que se basó en el análisis léxico de acrónimos y siglas tanto en inglés, la lengua de partida, como en español, la de llegada.

  In the process of translation of medical texts finding acronyms and initialisms is something very frequent. In this process these abbreviations constitute a linguistic and a cultural problem too. The aim of this research was to analyze in medical texts on Cardiology the problems associated to the translation from English into Spanish of acronyms and initialisms used in these texts. As a result solutions to these problems were given. Some of these solutions were to provide the full meaning of the abbreviations in English and Spanish to have a complete understanding and also to find the semantic nucleus of a phrase and place the correct number and genre. It is a synchronic, descriptive, interpretive, qualitative study within the framework of descriptive translation studies. It was based on the lexical analysis of acronyms and initialisms in the English source text and the Spanish target text.
