Los orígenes de los aleros de los tejados se remontan a la Edad Media y continúan hacia el primer tercio del siglo XX. La comarca del Alto Maestrazgo concentra una buena cantidad de aleros pintados. Los motivos pintados tenían una función netamente apotropaica o exorcista. La persona que pintaba algunas tejas, o bien todo el alero, poseía un cierto «poder» capaz de otorgar al voladizo -trazando unos signos concretos- una función protectora sobre la casa y sus habitantes.

Els orígens dels ràfecs pintats es remunten, si més no, a l'edat mitjana i arriben fins al primer terç del segle XX. La comarca de l'Alt Maestrat concentra una bona quantitat de ràfecs pintats. Els motius pintats tenien una funció netamente apotropaica o exorcística. Qui pintava, si no tot el ràfec almenys algunes teules, era una persona que poseïa un cert «poder» capaç d'atorgar al voladís -traçant uns signes concrets- la funció protectora sobre la casa i els seus habitants.

The origins of the painted eaves go back, at least, to middle age and go till the first third of 20th century. The region of Alt Maestrat concentrates a good quantity of painted eaves. The painted motives had a clearly apotropaic function. Who painted, if not all the eaves at least some tiles, was a person who had a certain «power» capable of granting to cantilever, -drawing concrete signs- the protective function over the house and its inhabitants.
