Teno's Rural Park is a natural protected space located in the northwest of the island of Tenerife, with an extension of 8064 ha. Different treatments of fertilization have been applied during theyears 2003 and 2004, using compost of urban residues, superphosphate and an ecologicalfertilizer. The average dry matter production ranged between 2086 and 1201 kg/ha in 2003 and2004. The levels of phosphorus for this type of volcanic soils are low, between 38,5 ppm(ecological fertilizer) and 56,5 ppm (urban residues). The higher level of exchange calcium wasreached in soils treated with ecological fertilizer (21,8 meq/100g). The urban residues produced,in the rough grassland light increases on phosphorus concentrations (0,26 %) and quite high inthose of potassium (2,12 %) and magnesium (0,42 %). The ecological fertilization increase thelevels of calcium (0,79 %), sodium (0,73 %) and crude protein (9,87 %), appearing as a goodalternative to the superphosphate. However, it becomes necessary to continue this study toconfirm the efficiency of phosphorus fertilization with time.
