This paper traces the evolution of the upnu institution in the Eanna temple from the ninth to the sixth century BCE. Originally a fee levied by the temple scribe on temple-internal transactions and expenditures, the upnu payment was converted into a tax payable to the crown at the latest under Nabonidus, but possibly already somewhat earlier, under Nebuchadnezzar. This development is a further aspect of the drawn-out process by which Eanna was brought under ever-tighter royal control in the sixth century.

Cet article retrace l’évolution de l’institution de l’upnu dans le temple d’Eanna du IXe au VIe siècle avant notre ère. À l’origine, il s’agissait d’une taxe prélevée par le scribe du temple sur les transactions et les dépenses internes du temple. Le paiement de l’upnu a été converti en un impôt payable à la couronne au plus tard sous Nabonide, mais peut-être déjà un peu plus tôt, sous Nabuchodonosor. Cette évolution est un autre aspect du long processus par lequel Eanna a été placé sous un contrôle royal de plus en plus étroit au VIe siècle.
