Tradicionalmente, se ha asociado el desarrollo tecnológico con el progreso humano. Esto ha provocado que la etapa posterior a la desestructuración del Imperio Romano Occidental haya sido interpretada como inferior por la ausencia de innovaciones tecnológicas. En este artículo se ha analizado la tipología y la función del instrumental agrícola de época visigoda, como el arado, a través de fuentes como las pizarras de dibujo, llegando a la conclusión de que es el contexto socioeconómico el que define la efectividad del objeto y no su complejidad.
Traditionally, technological development has been associated with human progress. In consequence, the following period to the fall of the Western Roman Empire has been interpreted as inferior due to the absence of technological innovations.In this article we have analysed the typology and the function of agricultural implements of the Visigothic period, such as the plough, through sources like drawing slates, reaching the conclusion that it is the socio-economic context that defines the effectiveness of the object and not its complexity.
