    Se hace una reflexión sobre los condicionantes de la verdad histórica, haciendo patente su perspectivismo, su extraordinaria complejidad, su ca-rácter a la vez concreto y abstracto, sus implicaciones teóricas y éticas, su estrecha dependencia del lenguaje or-dinario y su necesidad de recurrir a la imaginación, que no debe confundirse con la ficción. La conclusión es que, por su estrecha vinculación con la vida, la verdad histórica, sin renunciar a su pretensión de auténtico conoci-miento del pasado, es función de los fines que se asignen a la historiografía.

    The paper is a reflection about the conditions of historical truth that sheds light on its perspectivism, its extraordinary complexity, its character both specific and abstract, its theoretical and ethical implications, its close dependence on ordinary language, and its need of imagination without being fictional. The conclusion is that the historical truth, because of its binding with human life and without giving up its aspiration to a real knowledge of the past, is a function of the aims assigned to historiography.
