A long-term NPK fertilization essay (1987-2007) was carried out in a meadow situated in the south side of the Cantabrian Mountains. The total amount of Rumex crispus (kg ha-1) and its contribution (% dry matter) to the total forage was measured. The fertilizer doses used were 0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1 for nitrogen and potassium and 0, 80, 160 and 240 kg ha-1 for phosphorus. The design was a factorial 43. During the first ten years, the contribution of nitrogen was at once and in the last ten fractionated (70% and 30%).The system of utilization consisted of three annual harvests of the forage and a final grazing. The values obtained were 267 kg ha-1 (66% of the year) and 4.1%, 115 kg ha-1 and 4.6% and 26 kg ha-1 and 1.2% for the first, second and third cut respectively. There was no effect due to the fractioning of the nitrogen fertilization. The type and dose of fertilizer has a positive effect on Rumex crispus, obtaining an increase in yield and in dry matter (%) from 120, 80 and 180 kg ha-1 of N, P and K, respectively.
