Resumen de Os primeiros festivais da Nova Canção Chilena e a invenção de um movimento musical

The direct association between the I Festi-val de la Nueva Canción Chilena— held in Santiago in July 1969 — and the con-solidation of the homonymous movement became a commonplace in the literature on this topic. Based on an analysis of the context in which the event was held, its program and its impact, we will seek to relativize such automatic identification, arguing that the term Nueva Canción Chilena (Chilean New Song) was subject to different interpretations at that moment. In our view, it was from the II Festival, held the following year, that was born an inten-tion to differentiate certain musical trend from other proposals aimed at renewing the folk-inspired repertoire, which related to the involvement of a few musicians in the electoral campaign and the Salvador Allende administration (1970-73).

A associação direta entre o I Festival de la Nueva Canción Chilena — ocorrido em Santiago em julho de 1969 — e a consolidação do movimento homô-nimo se tornou um lugar-comum na bibliografia dedicada à temática. Com base na análise do contexto em que o evento foi realizado, de sua progra-mação e sua repercussão, buscaremos relativizar essa identificação automáti-ca, argumentando que o termo Nueva Canción Chilena (Nova Canção Chilena) foi alvo de diferentes interpretações naquele momento. A nosso ver, foi a partir do II Festival, em 1970,que veio à tona a intenção de diferenciar certa tendência musical das demais propostas voltadas à renovação do re-pertório de inspiração folclórica, o que estava relacionado ao engajamento de determinados músicos na campanha eleitoral e no governo de Salvador Allende (1970-73).
