  • Resumen
    • Introduction: Over the last three decades body image has become a popular topic due to the increasinglyconcern with physical appearance. Concurrently, eating disorders (ED) have increased due tothe promotion of the body image standards that promote a lean body culture. ED among sport isassociated with pressures about weight, body size and shape, which are intensified with the generalpressures that exist within society as a whole. The aim of the present study is to analyse the presenceof eating behaviors associated with ED, as well as body image satisfaction among Spanish Sports andExercise Science college students.Method: Participants of the present study were 1008 students, 247 female (M= 20.15 years; SD= 2.88)and 761 males (M= 20.88 years; SD= 2.95) from a Sport and Exercise Science degree. They were askedto complete an online self-reported questionnaire containing several sociodemographic items, theEating Attitudes Test (EAT-40) and the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ).Results: Results showed that levels of body dissatisfactions were higher in females (M= 69.76; SD=30.91) than in males (M= 52; SD= 20.40), whereas ED symptoms within both genders were similar(M= 13.66; SD= 11.41 and, M= 13.21; SD= 6.99, respectively). According to the 21 cut-off score,12.4% males and 17.4% scored beyond it. Relationship between disordered eating attitudes and bodyimage disturbances were significant for both, males (r= .496, p< .000) and females (r=. 594, p< .000).Conclusions: This study describes body image perception and attitudes commonly observed in EDin a male and female Spanish university Sports and Exercise Science student’s population, aiming toscreen the current situation.
