    En el presente trabajo se abordan algunas ideas generales relacionadas con la actividad científica como un elemento esencial en la formación docente y destaca la necesidad de emprender cambios dirigidos hacia elevación de la profesionalización docente, incluyendo tanto la formación inicial como la continuada. Se presenta un acercamiento general a la formación de docentes en la región latinoamericana y se destacan sus principales limitaciones que obstaculizan que puedan asumir los retos que el desarrollo social impone atendiendo a las realidades de los contextos particulares de su actuación profesional, con el propósito de lograr una educación de calidad. El trabajo enfatiza además en la formación inicial y la formación continuada de docentes íntimamente ligadas a la investigación científica y la práctica escolar.

    In the present work some general concepts related to the scientific activity as an essential element in the teacher’s formation are approached and emphasizes the necessity of challenges towards educational professionalization including the initial formation and the continued. A general approach to the formation of teachers appears in the Latin American region and their main limitations stand out that prevent that they can assume the challenges that the social development imposes taking care of the realities of the particular contexts of its professional performance, in order to obtain an education of quality. The work emphasizes in addition in the initial formation and the continued formation to educational intimately bound to the scientific research and the scholastic practice.
