    La monarquía hispana no había tenido necesidad de resguardar sus fronteras interiores desde los siglos XIV y XV. La estrategia hispana desplegada por la monarquía con respecto a Aragón entre 1635 y 1652 pasó por un tiempo de política, otro de guerra y un tercero de lealtad y restauración. Aragón se convirtió durante los primeros años de la rebelión catalana en un territorio donde se hacía necesaria la mediación entre dos partes claramente enfrentadas, corona y principado. La extensión del conflicto catalán bajo la égida francesa afectó, con una guerra de ocupación, a algunas poblaciones aragonesas de la frontera, deteriorando la convivencia entre sus pobladores y la soldadesca, especialmente en una prolongada coyuntura bélica. Las instituciones y los concejos aragoneses se endeudaron apoyando la política exterior de Felipe IV y la guerra ayudó a transformar y hacer más flexible el régimen foral del reino.

    The Spanish monarchy had not the need to protect its internal borders since the fourteenth and fi ft eenth centuries. The Spanish strategy deployed by the monarchy with respect to Aragon between 1635 and 1652 went through a time of politics, another of war and a third of loyalty and restoration. Aragon became during the fi rst years of the Catalan rebellion in a territory where it was necessary to mediate between two clearly opposed parties, the crown and the principality. The extension of the Catalan confl ict under the French occupation aff ected, through the context of war, some Aragonese populations of the border, deteriorating the coexistence between its inhabitants and the troops, especially in a large military context. Th e Aragonese institutions and councils went into debt supporting the foreign policy of Philip IV and the war lead to transform making more flexible the local laws and fueros of the kingdom.
