    Los museos son, por su vinculación con la cultura y su vocación cívica, edificios que brindan la oportunidad y tienen la misión implícita de regenerar o transformar el contexto en el que se ubican. La arquitectura del museo oscila entre la interpretación del lugar y su historia, por una parte, y la respuesta espacial a requerimientos específicos, en otras palabras, entre memoria e invención. Los edificios comentados en el artículo son consecuencia no solo de sus peculiaridades culturales y geográficas, sino también de diferentes estructuras organizativas y del alcance de los agentes implicados -el promotor, el usuario y la colección-. Las obras incluidas, proyectadas o construidas en distintos países europeos, coinciden en la búsqueda de un equilibrio entre la idea conceptual generadora, su estructura espacial y la creación de un espacio público. Son resultado de circunstancias diversas y heterogéneas que sin embargo se relacionan entre sí, configurando un mapa personal e imaginario de variaciones sobre la idea de museo.

    Museums are, due to their tink with culture and their civic vocation, buildings that give the opportunity and have the implicit mission of regenerating or transforming the context in which they are located. The architecture of the museum oscillates between the interpretation of a place and its history, on the one hand, and the spatial response to specific requirements, in other words, between memory and invention. The buildings discussed in the article are the consequence not only of their cultural and geographical peculiarities, but also of different organizational structures and the scope of the agents ínvolved - the developer, the user and the collection. The works included, designed or built in several European countries, coincide in the search for a balance between the conceptual idea, its spatial structure and the creation of a public space. They are the consequence of diverse and heterogeneous circumstances that are nevertheless related to each other, configuring a personal and imaginary map of variations on the idea of museum.
