  En una cratera de volutas de Ruvo (Jatta 1094) se representa una escena en la que una Erinis está atando a un personaje desnudo, que habitualmente se identifica con Pirítoo. Sin embargo lo habitual en las referencias literarias y las representaciones en vasos de este personaje en los infiernos es que quedó adherido a una roca o a un trono. En el artículo se pasa revista a los textos literarios que se refieren a este episodio y a sus representaciones figuradas, y se examina el motivo de la diferencia de tratamiento de la imagen, que se considera influida por ideas pitagóricas reflejadas en un texto de Alejandro Polihístor. Se concluye que en la cratera de Ruvo se refleja un cambio del sentido de la historia: de una venganza divina personal pasa a ser un castigo dictado por la Justicia, en un ámbito moral.

  A volute krater from Ruvo (Jatta 1094) depicts a scene in which a Erinys is tying up a naked figure, usually identified as Peirithous. However, the usual literary references and vase depictions of this figure in the underworld are that he was attached to a rock or a throne. The article reviews the literary texts that refer to this episode and the figurative representations of it and examines the reason for the different treatment of the image, which is considered to be influenced by Pythagorean ideas reflected in a text by Alexander Polyhistor.

  It concludes that Ruvo’s krater reflects a change in the meaning of history, from a personal divine vengeance to a punishment dictated by Justice, in a moral realm.
