    El convento de Santo Domingo el Real de Madrid fue incautado y demolido en 1869.

    Fue lugar de enterramiento de D. Pedro de Castilla y de alguno de sus descendientes. Una Comisión del Museo Arqueológico Nacional encargada por el Gobierno pudo salvar algunos de los principales restos artísticos que se guardaban en sus fondos. Tras una breve noticia del edificio, sus reformas y obras artísticas, se examina la estatua orante del rey D. Pedro y los problemas que plantea.

    The convent of Santo Domingo el Real, in Madrid, was confiscated and demolished in 1869. It was the burial place of of Castile and some of his descendants. A commission formed by the National Archaeological Museum at the request of the government was able to save the principal artistic remains that were preserved in the convent’s depths. After a brief notice of the building, its reforms and artistic works, the statute of the praying king Don Pedro and the problems this entails are examined. We examine the statute of and the problems this raises.
