    En este artículo se aborda el tema de las relaciones entre el erotismo y la santidad durante un largo periodo que va desde la Edad Media al Concilio Vaticano II. Se intenta relacionarlo con imágenes representadas en la historia del arte, esencialmente del Renacimiento y del Siglo de Oro. Se tuvo que escoger y privilegiar algunos temas como el de la lactación de la Virgen, repetido innumerables veces en la pintura y el de las relaciones de la mística con el erotismo. Además se muestra cómo la visión del cuerpo fue un constante problema en la historia del pensamiento religioso y cómo los textos bíblicos pudieron influenciarlo. También se analiza la doctrina oficial de la Iglesia católica en cuanto a la presencia del erotismo en la vida de las parejas y sus desviaciones históricas, intentando precisar la lenta evolución de la enseñanza de la Iglesia sobre la sexualidad.

    In this article the relations between eroticism and sanctity are studied, in a long period which goes from the Middle Ages to the Second Vatican Council. It tries to relate images depicted in the history of art, essentially from the Renaissance and the Golden Age. It had to chose and privilege some issues such as the lactation of the Virgin, repeated in countless times in the paint and the mystical relations with eroticism. It also shows how the vision of the body was a constant problem in the history of religious thought and how the biblical texts had influence on it. Besides, it analyzed the official doctrine of the Catholic Church for the presence of eroticism in the lifes of couples and their historical deviations, trying to specify the slow evolution in the Church’s thinking on sexuality.
