La inflamación hepática o hepatitis tiene causas diferentes, tanto infecciosas como no infecciosas. Entre las primeras, cabe destacar la etiología viral que es la causa de, al menos, la mitad de todas las hepatitis en el mundo. Estos virus se han ido nombrando sucesivamente con las letras del abecedario: A, B, C, D, E y G1. Cada una de estas hepatitis se produce por un virus distinto y tienen una forma de transmisión diferente (fecal-oral, sexual, parenteral, etc.). Vemos también que para su detección tiene gran importancia un examen serológico para poner de manifiesto la presencia de antígenos y anticuerpos, además de algunas pruebas complementarias.

Liver inflammation or hepatitis has different causes, both infectious and non-infectious. Among the first, it is worth highlighting the viral etiology that is the cause of at least half of all hepatitis in the world. These viruses have been named successively with the letters of the alphabet: A, B, C, D, E and G1. Each of these hepatitis is caused by a different virus and has a different form of transmission (fecal-oral, sexual, parenteral, etc.). We also see that a serological test to reveal the presence of antigens and antibodies, as well as some complementary tests, is of great importance for its detection.
