    La oposición venezolana ha sido derrotada consecutivamente en las elecciones legislativas y presidenciales desde 1998, cuando Hugo Chávez alcanza la presidencia de la República e impulsa una serie de reformas que modifican el panorama institucional venezolano. El trabajo analiza la evolución de la oposición venezolana en los últimos catorce años frente a estos cambios, a los resultados electorales alcanzados y a las diferentes estrategias adoptadas para enfrentar al gobierno. Se identifican también algunas variables importantes a la hora de evaluar el desempeño de la oposición y propone que su buen funcionamiento es parte esencial de la democracia.
