Between the late 1930s and the 1950s, the repressive policies of the Spanish state dominated Catalan anti-fascist women with brutal and systematic strategies. Both the victims and the locations of these crimes were erased from the official annals of history. This paper will analyze how The Great Flight recovers them from oblivion. Director Carolina Astudillo resurrects their memory and reconstructs the story of Clara Pueyo Jornet who was imprisoned, tortured and sentenced to death for her clandestine work on the re-organization of the Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia.
