    Uno de los artistas más cotizados en el arte contemporáneo es Jeff Koons, el cual en 2016 anunció que regalaría la escultura “Ramo de tulipanes” a la cuidad de París con el motivo de rendir homenaje a las víctimas de los atentados terroristas que sufrió la cuidad en 2015. Sin embargo, el hecho fue duramente cuestionado por artistas e intelectuales franceses por considerar a Koons y su regalo como especulador y denigrante. El propósito de este trabajo es tratar de aclarar por qué una obra de arte como regalo causó tanta polémica. La afirmación que defenderé es que, para entender el problema, debemos concentrarnos en la noción de regalo, y si “Ramo de tulipanes” provocó indignación es porque es un regalo del tipo por intercambio y sin relación.

    One of the most sought-after artist in contemporany art is Jeff Koons, who in 2016 announced that he would give the sculpture “Bouquet of tulips” to the city of Paris in orde to pay tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks that the city suffered in 2015. However, the fact was harshly questioned by french artists and intellectuals for considering Koons and his gift as profiteer and denigrating. The purpose of this work is to try clarify why a work of art as a gift caused so much controversy. The claim thai i will defend is that, to understand the problem, we must focus on the notion of gift, and if “Bouquet of tulips” caused outrage, it is because it is a gift of the exchange type and without relation.
