Hume y el Tractatus sobre “causa/efecto”, “yo” y “es/debe ”

    A primera vista, la historia de la filosofía es una fuente inagotable de sorpresas.

    Parecería que estamos permanentemente hundidos en procesos de re-descubrimiento de pensadores, de constantes reinterpretaciones de sus sistemas y tesis, de discordancias entre filósofos que pensábamos que eran afines y, viceversa, de convergencias de puntos de vista entre filósofos que considerábamos totalmente ajenos uno del otro o, inclusive, radicalmente opuestos entre sí. En este ensayo me propongo hacer ver que hay tres tópicos filosóficos en relación con los cuales Hume y Wittgenstein defienden básicamente la misma posición. Los temas que tengo en mente son la relación causa/ efecto, la naturaleza del “yo” y la cuestión del “es/debe”, esto es, lo que pasó a la historia como la ‘Guillotina de Hume’.

    At first glance, the history of philosophy is an inexhaustible source of surprises. It would seem that we are permanently immersed in processes of re-discovery of thinkers, of constant reinterpretations of their systems and theses, of disagreements between philosophers we thought were related and, vice versa, of convergences of views between philosophers we considered totally alien to each other or, even, radically opposed to each other. In this essay I intend to show that there are three philosophical topics in relation to which Hume and Wittgenstein defend basically the same position.

    The topics I have in mind are the cause/effect relation, the nature of the ‘I’, and the question of ‘is/ought’, i.e., what went down in history as ‘Hume’s Guillotine’.
