Mit aller Gewalt – Die Begriffe GEWALT und MACHT und ihre Metaphorisierungen im Deutschen und Spanischen

    En el artículo se aplican herramientas de la lingüística cognitiva, especialmente la teoría cognitiva de la metáfora, a la descripción del concepto de alemán GEWALT y, relacionado con él ⎯por ser parcialmente sinónimo⎯, el de MACHT, siempre con vistas a sus correspondencias en español, que serían PODER, FUERZA, etc. Se empieza con una breve presentación de la mencionada teoría cognitiva de la metáfora y se prosigue con el análisis semántico de GEWALT por medio del esquema de la FUERZA detectando una secuencia semántica, es decir, una progresiva expansión del significado original ‘fuerza’ y también se postula el escenario cognitivo de GEWALT. Seguidamente y para completar la descripción semántica, se buscan los conceptos simples (esquemas de imágenes) que se proyectan sobre el dominio de GEWALT, destacando el concepto de KRAFT,pero también el de ARRIBA-ABAJO y del CONTENEDOR, así como el de OBJETO CODICIADO en el caso de MACHT, frecuentes en otros dominios como el de las emociones (AMOR, DESDÉN). De esta forma, se pueden contrastar losconceptos de GEWALT y MACHT, siendo el último “GEWALT en potencia”. Con todo ello, se logra una descripción bastante exhaustiva del concepto de GEWALT, que puede ser útil para otros estudios sobre la violencia, por ejemplo en textos (literarios)

    In this paper I apply cognitive linguistic tools, especially cognitive metaphor theory, to describe the German concept of GEWALT (VIOLENCE) and, related to it, that of MACHT (POWER), for being partially synonymous, always looking for their counterparts in Spanish, which are PODER, FUERZA, and others. I begin with a short presentation of the cognitive metaphor theory. Then I go on with the semantic analysis by means of the FORCE schema where a semantic sequence can be detected, that is, a progressive expansion of the primary meaning ‘force ́. In a second step, in order to complete the semantic description, I look for the simple concepts (image-schemes) which are projected on the VIOLENCE domain, above all the concept of FORCE, but also those of DESIRED OBJECT, CONTAINER and UP-DOWN, frequently used in the domains of emotion (LOVE, DESDAIN). By this, the concepts of GEWALT and MACHT (POWER and VIOLENCE) can be compared being the last one “potential VIOLENCE”. All this contributes to an exhaustive description of the GEWALT concept, which can beused in other studies about violence, for example in (literary) texts
