We focus on regional convergence based upon a sample of 19 European countries (1991-2008). After covering theoretical issues on -convergence and -convergence, we focused on the income distribution details. Our evidence confirms some results presented elsewhere, such as the convergence process ephemeral nature, the trend towards polarization, the relative region's position high degree of persistence and the 'convergence clubs' hypothesis admissibility. Our main novelty is the estimated shape for the ergodic distribution, revealing a long run trend towards the formation of more clusters. In sum, the catching-up process underway in Europe seems to be transient.
