    La asistencia y transferencia del paciente crítico se lleva a veces a cabo en un entorno en el que, el medio y tiempos de respuesta, juegan en contra de un tratamiento definitivo adecuado y en un centro útil.

    La relación que en este sentido se plantea entre los recursos de asistencia del nivel de Primaria y el sistema de helitransporte sanitario (HEMS), viene provocada por la necesidad de acortar esos tiempos de respuesta y derivación en zonas en las que la asistencia inicial es llevada a cabo por los DCCU, a pesar de tratarse de patología tiempo-dependiente que requiere de un traslado rápido y que no puede ser ofertado por los mismos existiendo la posibilidad de optimización. El apoyo en este sentido de los HEMS es fundamental: El conocimiento del medio y el establecimiento de una guía de actuación son necesarios.
