    El artículo releva la obra de Juan Serapio Lois y el contexto de la época en la que vivió. Las investigaciones relacionadas con la historia de la psicología en Chile plantean el inicio de la ciencia psicológica en el país en 1889, al llegar al Instituto Pedagógico de la Universidad de Chile el Dr. Jorge Enrique Schneider. Sin embargo, el avance de la historiografía permite observar en Lois al pionero adelantado, quien realiza una importante obra influenciado por el pensamiento positivista de Auguste Comte. El presente trabajo se aborda desde la metodología rizomática para la historia de la psicología y busca determinar las razones por las cuales Lois debe ser considerado un pionero de la psicología científica en Chile.

    The article highlights Juan Serapio Lois’ work, and the context of the time in which he lived. Research concerning the history of psychology in Chile sets the beginning of psychological science in the country during 1889, when Dr. Jorge Enrique Schneider arrived at the Instituto Pedagógico of Universidad de Chile. However, the progress of historiography has identified Lois as an advanced pioneer, who performed important work influenced by Auguste Comte’s positivist thinking. The present study follows the rhizomatic methodology for the history of psychology and seeks to determine the reasons why Lois must be considered a pioneer of Chilean scientific psychology.
