Resumen de Geoparques en España: factores clave de su implantación, retos y consideraciones geológicas para su futuro crecimiento.

  España tiene actualmente 15 geoparques, lo que le sitúa como el segundo país del mundo y el primero de Europa encuanto a número. Esta cantidad previsiblemente irá en aumento porque cada año surgen nuevas propuestas y candidaturas. Este artículo intenta dar algunas claves revisando los factores geográficos, geológicos, administrativos y socioeconómicos que han propiciado su éxito. Para los autores, la representatividad geológica y la calidad de los elementos del patrimonio geológico incluidos en los geoparques son dos de los principales factores que podrían definir una estrategia de crecimiento equilibrada y ordenada. En este sentido, la existencia de un inventario nacional de lu-gares de interés geológico se revela como una herramienta fundamental para organizar una distribución nacional coherente. Por otro lado, el crecimiento de la red de geoparques y su implantación en el territorio plantea una serie de retos de futuro que también son discutidos.

  There are 15 geoparks in Spain. It is the second country in the world and the first in Europe in terms of the numberof geoparks. This number is expected to increase as new proposals and nominations emerge every year. Growthcannot be indefinite and it should be analysed how many geoparks it would be reasonable to have in the country.This article attempts to provide some clues by reviewing the geographic, geological, administrative and socio-eco-nomic factors that have led to their success. For the authors, the geological representativeness and the quality ofthe geological heritage elements included in the geoparks are two of the main factors that could define a balanced and orderly growth strategy. In addition, the existence of a national inventory of geological sites is an essential toolfor new applications and for organising a coherent national distribution. On the other hand, the growth of the Geoparks network and its implantation in the territory poses a series of challenges for the future that are also discussed.
