  La gran incidencia de partos prematuros, junto con los beneficios demostrados, ha fomentado el desarrollo del método madre canguro en Europa. Este método tiene beneficios a tres niveles: recién nacido, progenitores y sistema sanitario.

  A nivel del recién nacido tiene beneficios en su termorregulación, frecuencia cardiaca y respiratoria, ganancia de peso y calidad de sueño.

  A nivel materno favorece la vinculación con el recién nacido y la lactancia materna y también disminuye el periodo de recuperación postparto.

  Todo ello, hace que se reduzca la estancia en el hospital, disminuyendo los gastos sanitarios.

  The high incidence of preterm birth, with the benefits shown by numerous studies, has encouraged the development of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) in Europe. This method has benefits at three levels: newborn, parents and health system.

  At the newborn level, it has benefits in terms of thermoregulation, heart and respiratory rate, weight gain and quality of sleep.

  At the maternal level, it promotes the mother-baby relationship and breastfeeding, and it also reduces the postpartum recovery period.

  Those benefits reduce the stay in the hospital, reducing healthcare costs.
