  El objetivo de un sistema de drenaje torácico cerrado es evacuar el contenido ocupante de la cavidad pleural o mediastínica. Desde que en 1825 se usase por primera vez con un sistema de frascos hasta hoy con los nuevos sistemas digitales, su uso es indiscutible. Estos nuevos sistemas digitales, junto a las nuevas prácticas quirúrgicas, han otorgado un mayor nivel de seguridad y han contribuido en la reducción del tiempo medio en la estancia y la inmovilización de los pacientes que requieren dichos equipos.

  Nuestro objetivo en esta revisión es exponer las ventajas de estos nuevos sistemas que se vienen utilizando desde hace unos cinco años.

  The goal of a closed chest drainage system is to evacuate the occupying contents of the pleural or mediastinal cavity. Since 1825 is used for the first time with a bottle system until today, with the new digital systems, its use is indisputable. These new digital systems, together with the new surgical practices, have provided a higher level of safety and have contributed to the reduction of the average length of stay and the immobilization of patients who require such equipment.

  Our objective in this review is to expose the advantages of these new systems that they have been using for about five years.
