    En el presente trabajo llevamos a cabo el estudio diplomático y la clasificación tipológica de los principales instrumentos notariales que las bernardas de Avilés (Asturias, España) despacharon ante los notarios del número de la villa. Así mismo damos cuenta de los documentos que ellas mismas entregaron a los oficiales de las escribanías y que fueron producidos en el seno de la Observancia cisterciense castellana.

    Para llevar a cabo el presente estudio se han revisado varios manuales de escribientes compuestos en los primeros siglos de la modernidad (ss. XVI-XVII), se ha consultado la literatura normativa de la Congregación Cisterciense de Castilla y se han realizado dos catas documentales: he revisado sistemáticamente los fondos notariales del partido judicial de Avilés depositados en el Archivo Histórico de Asturias, fechados entre 1600 y 1621, así como el desempeño laboral íntegro del notario que entre 1700 y 1730 realizó la inmensa mayoría de las escrituras otorgadas por las monjas.

    In the present article we will present a diplomatic study and typological classification of the main notarial written documents submitted by the Avilés Cistercian nuns before the town notaries. Likewise, we will give an account of thedocuments generated by the aforementioned nuns in compliance with the Cistercian Rule in Castille and later handed in to the notarial officers.

    In order to complete this study, several clerical manuals produced in the 16th and 17th centuries have been analysed and the regulatory literature for the Castillian Cistercian Congregation has been consulted. In addition, two thorough documentary revisions have been made; namely, a systematic check of the notary collections in the jurisdiction of Avilés from 1600 to 1621, preserved at the Asturian Historic Archive, and the entire job performance of the notary public that attended to most part of the public deeds granted by the Avilés Cistercian nuns between 1700 and 1730.
