El Tratado de Tordesillas, que dividía el mundo entre las coronas de España y Portugal con el respaldo papal, saltó por los aires en la mentalidad política del siglo XVI con la llegada de la Reforma protestante. Las naciones que la abrazaron desarrollaron flotas y armadas y se lanzaron al comercio, a la conquista y a la disputa bélica en contra de los intereses de los países ibéricos, acosándoles hasta en las costas de las respectivas metrópolis. The Treaty of Tordesillas, which divided the world between the crowns of Spain and Portugal with papal backing, blew up in the political mentality of the 16th century with the arrival of the Protestant Reformation. The nations that embraced it developed fleets and navies and embarked on trade, conquest and war against the interests of the Iberian countries, harassing them even on the coasts of their respective mother countries. One example is the Dutch attack on Gibraltar in 1607, dealt with here from its reflection in the municipal documentation of Malaga.
