  En los albores del siglo XXI, la lectura se encuentra ante límites y espacios cada vez más difusos, a la vez que ocupados por otros medios alternativos de transmisión de saberes e información. Cada vez se lee menos, y la literatura que se consume tiene, en mucha ocasiones, una dudosa calidad. Los niños y niñas encuentran otros atractivos más inmediatos, donde los libros apenas tienen más uso que aquel que la escuela establece en una cotidianeidad, casi siempre, sujeta a la arbitrariedad de determinadas editoriales y la actitud acrítica de una parte importante del colectivo docente. Se hace necesaria una labor continuada de fomento de la lectura donde, desde docentes a familias, bibliotecarios y otros colectivos educativos, nos impliquemos de manera decidida en un proyecto lleno de atractivos, a la vez que rodeado de interrogantes. Nuestra experiencia tiene por título ‘En verano también le lee’, y mostramos cómo 35 niños y niñas amaron y disfrutaron con libertad de la lectura durante una semana del estío de una localidad turística y costera. La Biblioteca Pública Municipal ‘Salvador Rueda’ de Nerja (Málaga), es el lugar donde tres jóvenes docentes hemos puesto en práctica lo que durante estos últimos años hemos aprendido en nuestro transcurrir universitario.

  At the beginning of the twenty-first century, reading stands before more and more diffuse limits and spaces. At the same time, there are other alternative means to pass on both knowledge and information. We read every time less and the literature at our disposition has very often a questionable quality. Boys and girls can find more immediate attractions, and books haven’t got another use but the one offered in the daily routine at schools, subject to the arbitrariness of some publishing houses and the indifference of a part of the teaching staff. It is necessary a continued work of reading promotion where teachers and families, librarians and other educative groups, should get involved in a determined way in this appealing project. The authors’ experience is titled ‘We also read in summer’ and it brings forward the way how thirtyfive children have loved and enjoyed reading for a week in a tourist seaside town. The public library ‘Salvador Rueda’ in Nerja (Málaga), is the setting where three young teachers have put into practice what they have learned during the previous years at university.
