    En el artículo se encuentra la documentación más relevante acerca de la educación religiosa que han producido tanto el Estado como la Iglesia católica romana en Colombia entre fines del siglo XIX e inicios del XXI. Esta documentación se somete a un examen de tipo hermenéutico crítico para detectar en los textos el itinerario que debe cumplir el derecho a la libertad religiosa para contribuir a generar, en el marco de la actual Constitución Política y del Concilio Vaticano II, la formación religiosa desde una educación jurídicamente coherente con la laicidad del Estado. Y que, en consecuencia, favorezca los derechos de quienes profesan las diversas religiones que conviven en el país, y aun de los que niegan su pertenencia a cualquiera de ellas. Se propone una revisión del encuadramiento jurídico, de la relación entre el Estado y la Iglesia católica romana, determinante histórico de la mayor o menor laicidad de la sociedad colombiana.

    The article surveys relevant documentation on religious education produced by both the State and the Roman Catholic Church in Colombia between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 21st. It is submitted to a hermeneutic examination to detect in the texts the foundation of religious freedom which, within the framework of the political Constitution and the Second Vatican Council, contributes to generate authentic religious formation from an education that respects the secularism of the State and favors the rights of those who profess the various religions that coexists in the country, and even those who deny their membership to any of them. It proposes a revision of the legal framework of the relation between the State and the Roman Catholic Church, a historical determinant of the greater or lesser laicity of Colombian society.
