Un niño Jesús del escultor…

    La proclamación en 1786 de los beatos Gaspar Bono y Nicolás de Longobardi o Longobardo, de la orden de los Mínimos de San Francisco de Paula, motivó que fray Alejandro del Barco, oriundo de Torredonjimeno y varias veces provincial de Granada de la orden, encargara al escultor de la escuela antequerana Diego Márquez y Vega sus imágenes dobles con destino a los conventos de la Victoria de Estepa y Torredonjimeno, donde se celebraron, como en los demás de los Mínimos, grandes fiestas por su elevación a los altares. Lo anterior nos ha llevado a identificar otra obra de este mismo artista en el Niño Jesús de la Virgen del Rosario del monasterio de dominicas de Torredonjimeno. Aunque el patrimonio artístico mueble tosiriano fue casi totalmente destruido en la Guerra Civil, quedaban algunas muestras interesantes por estudiar que ahora damos a conocer en este trabajo, prueba de los fecundos intercambios artísticos y las variadas relaciones entre las comarcas de Andalucía, en este caso a través, principalmente, de las órdenes religiosas.

    The proclamation in 1786 as blesseds of Gaspar Bono and Nicholas of Longobardi, friars of the Order of Minims of Saint Francis of Paola, motivated that Fray Alejandro del Barco, native of Torredonjimeno and several times Provincial of Granada in the Order, commissioned the sculptor of the Antequera school, Diego Márquez y Vega, to make their double images for the convents of the Virgin of Victory in Estepa and Torredonjimeno, where, as in the other houses of Minims, great celebrations were held for their elevation to the altars. This has led us to identify the Infant Jesus of the Virgin of the Rosary, in the Dominican monastery of Torredonjimeno, as a work of the same artist.

    Although movable artistic heritage of this town was almost completely destroyed in the Civil War, there were still some interesting examples to be studied which we now present in this work, proof of the fruitful artistic exchanges and the varied relationships between the different regions of Andalusia, in this case mainly through the religious orders
