    Desde la geografía regional, histórica y cultural se desarrollan elementos para reinterpretar, repensar y analizar las condiciones de naturaleza y cultura de las realidades territoriales en el Caribe colombiano. Se parte de los orígenes prehispánicos, como base para la comprensión de procesos posteriores de organización territorial, los nuevos elementos de organización territorial en la conquista y colonización en la configuración territorial, la conformación del Estado-nación y su evolución hacia nuevas realidades territoriales. La compleja realidad espacial del Caribe colombiano es asumida a partir del análisis de los elementos geohistóricos que han definido patrones de ocupación y poblamiento en la región, los cuales han posibilitado rasgos culturales, estilos de vida propios del mestizaje y sincretismo que caracterizan la configuración territorial.

    From the regional, historical and cultural geography, elements are developed to reinterpret, rethink and analyze the conditions of nature and culture of territorial realities in the Colombian Caribbean. The new elements of territorial organization in the conquest and colonization in the territorial configuration, the conformation of the nation-state and its evolution towards new territorial realities are part of the pre-Hispanic origins, as a basis for the understanding of subsequent territorial organization processes. The complex spatial reality of the Colombian Caribbean is assumed from the analysis of the geohistoric elements that have defined patterns of occupation and population in the region, which have enabled cultural features, lifestyles of miscegenation and syncretism that characterize the territorial configuration
