    En este artículo se realiza un recorrido por los primeros años de vida del escritor y diplomático español Julián Ayesta Prendes (1919-1996). Es precisamente en esa época en la que transcurre su obra fundamental, la novela Helena o el mar del verano, publicada por Ínsula en 1952. Ayesta participó siendo muy joven en la guerra civil española, lo que supuso dejar atrás de forma radical una vida idílica. Años después quiso recuperar su infancia a través de su obra rememorando un escenario concreto, el Somió en los años veinte y treinta. Así mismo, se ha considerado interesante resaltar la figura paterna, el abogado, periodista y político Julián Ayesta Manchola, para comprender mejor la trayectoria posterior del escritor asturiano. Los datos biográficos quedarán ilustrados con textos de la obra del autor, incluyendo imágenes de lugares significativos de su novela.

    This paper presents the history in the first years of life of the writer and diplomat Julián Ayesta Prendes (1919-1996). It is precisely at this time when its fundamental work takes place, the novel Helena or the sea in summer, published by Ínsulain 1952. Ayesta participated in the Spanish civil war when he was very young, what it meant to leave behind and idyllic life. Later, he tried to recover his childhood through the literature, remembering a particular scenario, the village of Somió in the 20s and 30s. It is also interesting to remark the figure of his father Julián Ayesta Manchola (lawyer, journalist and politician), to better understand the subsequent trajectory of the Asturian writer. The biographical data will be illustrated with texts from the work of the author, including some pictures from significant places.
