    La presencia de militares italianos en el ejército español fue una constante desde el fin de la Edad Media y tuvo seguramente su apogeo en la época de los Austrias. Sin embargo, esta presencia fue relevante también durante la primera mitad del siglo xviii, cuando los italianos estaban bien representados en la corte y en las fuerzas armadas borbónicas. Pero a partir de la década de los cincuenta el sistema de reclutamiento por medio de asientos entró irremediablemente en aprietos y en los años siguientes se hizo extremamente complicado poder abastecer adecuadamente de hombres las diferentes unidades. Un problema que tuvo como consecuencia la desaparición casi total de los regimientos en servicio a finales del siglo y por tanto de un sistema de relaciones y vinculaciones entre la corte y los estados italianos que se habían mantenido bien fuerte a lo largo de todo el siglo. El presente trabajo pretende abarcar la crisis y el fin de un modelo, representado por el sistema de levas por asiento, intentando analizar las motivaciones de esta profunda crisis.

    The presence of Italian soldiers in the Spanish army has been a constant since the late Middle Ages and certainly reached its peak during the Habsburg period. However, this presence was still important in the first half of the 18th century, when Italians were well represented at court and in the Bourbon armed forces. But from the 1950s onwards, the system of recruitment by means of allowances was in irreparable trouble and in the following years it became extremely complicated to supply the various units with men in an adequate manner. This problem led to the almost total disappearance of the regiments in service at the end of the century, and thus of a system of relations and links between the court and the Italian states that had remained strong throughout the century. The present work attempts to cover the crisis and the end of a model, represented by the system of raising troops through subsidized contracts, trying to analyze the motivations of this deep crisis.
