El reconocimiento y validación de los mapas antiguos como parte del proceso histórico, es un tema que está cobrando cada día más fuerza; y esto en gran parte se debe a la implementación de herramientas informáticas como los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) que han logrado evidenciar el mapa antiguo como un artefacto didáctico que ilustra los procesos territoriales. Generalmente, cuando se habla del uso de estos instrumentos digitales en mapas antiguos, poco o nada se dice del proceso cognoscitivo previo en archivos históricos, indispensable para el análisis de cartografía histórica. En este sentido, el inventario se perfila como instrumento idóneo para comenzar a organizar y clasificar la información; en nuestro caso mapas. A tal fin, se muestra, el inventario redibujado de la franja defensiva que visitó el ingeniero militar Agustín Crame, y que sirvió para justificar un objetivo más amplio.

The recognition and validation of old maps as part of the historical process is an issue that is gaining more strength every day, and this is largely due to the implementation of computer tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that have achieved show the old map as a didactic artifact that illustrates territorial processes. Generally, when talking about the use of these digital instruments in ancient maps, little or nothing is said about the previous cognitive process in historical archives, indispensable for the analysis of historical cartography. In this sense, the inventory is emerging as the ideal instrument to begin to organize and classify information; in our case maps. To this end, the redrawn inventory of the defensive strip visited by the military engineer Agustín Crame, and which served to justify a broader objective, is shown.
