Resumen de L’historiographie contemporaine des Juifs de l’Afrique du nord antique

This paper aims to offer a synthesis on the historiography of the Jews in Ancient North Africa, from the first study devoted to this subject published in 1818 to nowadays. A first part presents chronologically the various studies on this topic, which has mainly retained the interest of the historians between the 1880s and the 1910s and since the 1960s. A second part pays attention on the two opposite visions of the African Jews conveying by these studies. The last part presents the new research perspectives on the African Jews since the 2000s, and especially some studies which have contributed to call into question the idea that the African Jews would have practised a kind of rabbinic Judaism as early as the end of the 2nd century CE.

L’objectif de cet article est de proposer une synthèse sur la production historiographique relative aux Juifs de l’Afrique antique, depuis la première étude consacrée à ce sujet en 1818 jusqu’à nos jours. Après une présentation chronologique des différentes études sur le sujet, qui a surtout retenu l’attention des chercheurs dans les années 1880-1910 et depuis les années 1960, il revient sur les deux visions opposées des Juifs africains qui émergent de ces études. L’article présente pour finir les nouvelles perspectives de la recherche depuis les années 2000 et quelques travaux qui ont contribué à remettre en cause l’idée selon laquelle les Juifs africains auraient pratiqué dès la fin du IIe siècle de notre ère un judaïsme de type rabbinique.
