Brief analysis of the situation of abandoned children in Tabeirós and the circumstances that could lead to this condition: mainly illegitimacy or poverty. More than half (about 70%) of the abandoned children taken in the Royal Hospital of Santiago died shortly after admission. Those given to countrywomen for their upbringing were more fortunate. They lived together under the same roof but did not fit into the family, being reduced to a servile condition.
