    One of the challenges facing the Social Sciences in their quest to understand the present lies in the problems posed by the paradoxes of time as we inhabit it today.What is proposed is a methodology that sounds out the hidden depths of social structures at the surface of everyday life on the assumption that an understanding of the present requires it to be seen in the web woven by the textures of time in its actual historical course. Manifestations of the rush of daily life in urban space will be taken as signs of a time that slips away from us and of alienation that leaves us no time to gain an awareness of it. How should we account for the traps set by the tyranny of the present? What are the meaning and implications of the acceleration of time in the pace of our lives and expectations of the future? What reconfigurations will be observed in life experiences, the visible side of time?

    Um dos desafios das Ciências Sociais para compreensão do presente passa pela problematização dos paradoxos do tempo que contemporaneamente habitamos. O que se propõe é uma metodologia que vá sondando as profundezas ocultas das estruturas sociais à superfície da vida cotidiana no pressuposto de que a compreensão do presente exige a sua inscrição numa trama constituída pelas tessituras do tempo no seu próprio decurso histórico. Manifestações do corre-corre cotidiano no espaço urbano serão tomadas como sinais de um tempo fugidio e de alienação que não dá tempo para dela se ganhar consciência. Como dar conta das armadilhas decorrentes da tirania do presente? Qual o significado e implicações da aceleração do tempo no ritmo de nossas vidas e nas expectativas de futuro? Que reconfigurações se registarão no espaço do vivido, lado visível do tempo?
