La baja participación femenina en el mercado laboral en México: características y factores que lo explican

    La participación laboral femenina en México resulta muy baja. Se abordan las características de dicha participación desde el año 2000 hasta la actualidad en términos de la evolución de sus tasas, la relación formalidad-informalidad y las remuneraciones. Se explican las razones de ello a través del efecto de tres instituciones sociales fundamentales: el mercado laboral, la política social y la familia. Se encuentra que el funcionamiento de las tres instituciones se entrelaza de una manera particular para impedir una mayor y mejor participación femenina en el mercado laboral.

    Female labor market rate in Mexico is very low. The paper describes the characteristics of it from 2000 year to the present. It describes the rate´s evolution, the proportion of formal and informal employment and salary earned by them. It also explains the reason behind that behavior from the effect of three fundamental social institutions: the labor market, the social policy and family. The paper finds that the three institutions work in a way that prevents a higher and better female participation in the labor market.
