Socorro, Portugal
Located in northeastem Portugal in the mountainous region of Tras-os Montes (province of Bragança), Fraga dos Corvos is a Middle-Late Bronze Age site excavated since 2003. The results of the investigations discovered not only a considerable number of findings which increased the inventory of Bronze Age artefacts for the northeastern Portugal but also it brought to light technological procedures. The sample is formed by more than nine thousand pieces of pottery; this large number of artefacts contributes enormously to the Duero basin Bronze Age pottery record. The value of this inventory is not only its number but also its quality, the variety of typologies, usages and their decorations. The study of the findings at Fraga dos Corvos allows scholars and archaeologist to reconstruct the ancient society and try to find the links with other cultural context of the Iberian Northern Sub-Plateau during the Bronze Age.
Besides the study of its repertory of materials, the site as a settlement offers many possibilities and a close investigation of the surrounding landscape and natural resources could interpret the main patterns of mountainous settlements in the western edge of Duero river valley.
